grandeur and solemnity of glaciers, while
varying shades of blue and organic shapes
highlight their vastness and fragility. This
approach promotes sustainable, zero-
waste fashion, ensuring that every piece
of fabric is efficiently utilised, in line with
sustainable design principles.
The collection also utilises zero-
waste dyeing techniques to minimise
environmental impact. The fabrics are
meticulously treated to mimic the textures
of melting ice surfaces. By incorporating
Eastern aesthetics, the design emphasises
the harmony between humans and
nature, offering a moment of tranquillity
and purity amidst the noisy urban
environment. The use of blue creates a
visual expression of the glaciers’ serene and
mysterious beauty, evoking contemplation
on nature's harmony and balance.
As a uniquely human cultural and
technical product, fashion softly records
and honours glaciers. Through everyday
attire, we hope to allow more consumers
to experience the colours and textures of
ancient glaciers, raising awareness about
glacier preservation. The soft faux fur not
only provides warmth that humans can
touch but also serves as a bridge between
humanity and the harsh cold of glaciers.
Fashion serves as an environmental
dialogue through this project. The oversized,
minimalist designs symbolise glacier
tranquility, inviting wearers and viewers to
reflect on global warming and the fragility of
nature. The collection combines art, fashion,
and activism, offering a deeper interaction
with the wearer, encouraging contemplation
of environmental preservation.
The collection uses biodegradable
synthetic leather and faux fur made from
polyester fibres. Handcrafted material
textures replicate melted ice surfaces, and
zero-waste dyeing techniques minimise
environmental impact. Sustainability is
central, with a focus on reducing carbon
footprints through eco-conscious production
methods and mindful material use.
Blending artistic design with
environmental education posed a
unique challenge. Crafting materials that
mimic glaciers’ textures while remaining
sustainable required innovative thinking.
The project had to balance aesthetic
appeal with a serious environmental
message, ensuring that fashion served as
both art and activism to communicate the
urgency of glacier preservation. dw
