Have Green Dreams on Sustainable Luxury

Celebrate Earth Day Month on an Eco-friendly Ecolux bed

Being environmentally conscious is not just about turning the lights off after leaving a room or not continuously purchasing
plastic bags at the grocery store.

It’s also about making everyday choices that can determine our future on this planet. Choices that include what you spend
your money on. The responsibility of living with eco-friendly intent is therefore not solely up to the individual. It is also up to
businesses to ensure their ecological footprint allows consumers to purchase products that can assist in reducing pollution,
conserving natural resources, protecting wildlife and slowing the rate of climate change.

It is this ideology that inspired Slumberland’s Ecolux range of luxury beds that are made virtually entirely from renewable
natural resources and recycled plastics. Technological advances in the fi eld of plastic recycling means the Ecolux mattress
offers a luxurious knit fabric made from reformulated yarn, sourced from recycled PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) bottles.

Its anti-microbial treatment promotes hygienic sleep and long-lasting protection against dust mites and odors. The mattress
itself is stuffed with recycled PET eco-fi ll, ensuring a luxurious fi rmness. Underneath this are 3D Mesh-fi ber columns that help
to regulate temperature and prevent heat build-up. These are made of Pulse latex, an energy-saving latex that uses 7.5
times less energy to manufacture than other latex.

The individually cased coils are made from discarded steel, but offer the exact same advanced spring system that ensures
minimal disturbance to you or your partner when either of you move during the night.

This is all supported on a polyester eco-insulator pad made from recycled PET, creating a barrier between the sleeper and
        the metal spring system.

The base of the bed is sustainable wood, harvested from forests that bear the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and SABS
stamps of approval. As the original pioneers of forest certifi cation, the FSC uses their expertise to promote and certify the
responsible management of the world’s forests, ensuring compliance with 10 principles:

        1. Compliance with laws
        2. Workers’ rights and employment conditions
        3. Indigenous peoples’ rights
        4. Community relations
        5. Benefi ts from the forest
        6. Environmental values and impact
        7. Management planning
        8. Monitoring and assessment
        9. High conservation values
        10. Implementation of management activities

Finally, at the bottom of the bed, even the feet are made from recycled PET bottles.

Having offered South African families a splendid night’s sleep on a comfortable, supportive mattress for more than 50
years, Slumberland is proud to include the eco-friendly Ecolux range that proves sustainability does not mean sacrifi cing the
extreme luxury that the Slumberland brand is associated with.
